Personal Bio
The first thing people ask
when they meet me, is how
did I get involved in the
field of communications.
Well to be honest with you,
the seeds were planted back
in 1972 when my step father,
who was enlisted in the
United States Air Force,
received orders for
assignment to Germany. Prior
to leaving the country, we
visited relatives in New
York City. Turned out, my
uncle Skip was a Disc Jockey
for one of the cities top R
& B stations, so I had the
opportunity one day to go
with him to the station and
I fell in love.
My Junior and Senior years of high school were spent as
the resident Disc Jockey for
all school dances.
Actually, my first real
taste of radio came during
my junior year while living in Italy,
where I had a
chance to be a reporter and
announcer for the Armed
Forces Radio and Television
Network in South Eastern
Europe. Once a week I would
put together a half hour
show featuring high school
sports scores, events and
news concerning the other 10
American high schools
scattered throughout Italy.
Four years at the
University of New Hampshire
opened all kinds of doors.
For one, the University had
a very powerful FM student
radio station with
hourly news updates, live
broadcasts of University
sporting events and a
variety of musical
programming. We broadcasted
everything from progressive
Rock to jazz to R & B.
Needless to say I took
advantage of it all.
As a
matter of fact, one
day after doing the
play-by-play for a
UNH-Boston University
basketball game, I
received a phone call from a
local cable television
station in Exeter, New
Hampshire. They were
looking for someone to host
a weekly regional cable news
show and also team with a
local radio sports guy to do
some high school sporting
events in their region.
My stint at Cablevision led
to an audition and interview for a weekend
sports anchor position with WMUR TV-9 in Manchester,
NH. At the time WMUR was the
only network affiliate in
state. The News
Director Miles Resnik,
definitely a character;
however, I will always be
indebted to miles for giving
me my first big chance at
television,. After just one year at
Channel 9, opportunity came
knocking again, this time
at WFSB TV 3 in
Hartford, Connecticut. After
three years in Hartford, it
was off to Philadelphia in
1990 for a 15
year tenure at WPVI TV6, one of the
most power local affiliates
in the country.
From July 2005 to March 2008
I worked with Comcast Sportsnet, an all sports
cable network whose
programming includes live
broadcasts of NHL, NBA
and Major League Baseball
games as well as a variety
of half hour and one
hour news formatted shows.
During the Summer of 2008, I
had a chance to host
Live@theopen. A
live internet update show
from the 2008 US Open Tennis
Championships in New York.
The show consisted of
interviewing, fans, the
worlds top tennis players
and a slew of entertainment
and sports celebrities. (Wayne
Knight-Newman from Seinfeld, Stephen
Root-Office Space & No Country for Old
Men, Chase Crawford-Gossip Girl, Jerry Fererra-Turtle from
HBO's Entourage, Adrian Grenier-Vincent Chase
from HBO's Entourage, Wayna Morris-Boyz II Men, Aaron Piersol-Olympic Gold medal
swimmer, Jason Lezak-Olympic Gold Medal
Swimmer, John Starks-Former NY Knick and
former NY Mayor David Dinkins.)
At the moment I do some free
lance voice over work and
part time news/sports
reporting for WHYY TV12 in
Wilmington, Delaware.
Working for WHYY gave me the
wonderful opportunity of
covering the historic
general elections that
produced the first African
American President in
American history. Covering
the state of Delaware on a
weekly basis puts me in
touch with the likes of
Congressman Mike Castle,
Senators Ted Kauffman and
Tom Carper as well as
Governor Jack Markell and
Lieutenant Governor Matt
Denn.
Currently I live in the
Philadelphia suburbs about
19
miles from center city.
During my free time I love
to coach soccer and have
actually earned
several coaching
certifications from the NSCAA (National Soccer
Coaches Association of
America), The FA, Eastern
Pennsylvania Youth Soccer
Association and The USSF
(United States Soccer
Foundation). My soccer work
has also given me the
opportunity to work with the
WPSL
(Women's Premier Soccer
league) where I had the
chance to general manage the
Philadelphia Liberty.
