Media: In Their Words.

When I
joined the Philadelphia
Independence organization in
December 2009, I was challenged
to put together a game day
operations plan.
As
with any sport, finding
the right announcer who can make
the game more entertaining is
paramount for the fan
experience.
Having the wrong
announcer could make the game
painful to watch!
And so, one cold day in
January, Phil Andrews walked
through the doors of our office
and my immediate thought was
“this guy is a football player
not a futbol player”.
How is he going to
announce the beautiful
game…played by women and not
men?
Tall order for a big man!
Well, Phil proved me wrong and I
can only say that we are honored
to have him as the announcer of
the Philadelphia Independence.
Phil plays a crucial role
to the game because he creates
an entertaining atmosphere for
our fans and just adds so much
more to the game.

The Night I Emceed Ms.
Doreen Taylors red carpet
charity event to celebrate the
release of her third CD,
"COMING HOME"
First off, you are an
angel. "Conrad and Carol" (still
find that funny) LOVED you and
thought you were an absolute
riot. You were their highlight
for the evening. I have been
getting GLOWING feedback from
guests about you and I am SO
happy that you were part of this
event. I had NO idea how
amazingly personable you are- I
always knew you had a great
voice and presence and looked
real nice...but you are such a
great person to be around and
you made everyone feel at ease
and happy to be there. Thank you
so so so much for being part of
this event. We lost about half
of the guest list due to snow,
but still all in all, it was a
HUGE success. I looked for you
at the end of the night but I
couldn't find you. I wanted to
thank you personally for
everything :( So...here I am
writing a notorious FB message
instead. I hope you are not a
stranger. I feel like you are
family now and I thank God for
an angel like you :) BTW, your
Ventresca Tuxedo fit the theme
of the evening to a T.

Phil Andrews served as the host
of Drive Magazine for the
2005-2006 basketball season. The
critically acclaimed television
magazine show produced by 76ers
television for Comcast Sportsnet
provided the most behind the
scenes coverage of the team ever
seen.
Phil was extremely entertaining,
humorous and insightful while
also performing many interesting
on set interviews with various
guests delving further into the
lives of the show’s beloved
76ers. The presence and talents
of Phil Andrews was a key
ingredient to the success of
Drive Magazine.

During the
Summer of 2008,
I had the
opportunity to
meet and work
alongside an
extremely
talented
individual, Phil
Andrews.
The show took
place all day
and night during
The US Open
Tennis
Championships in
Flushing
Meadows, where
Phil hosted
“Live at The
Open” from start
to finish for
the entire
fortnight.
American Express
knew what they
were doing when
they hired
Andrews for the
job, a quick
study, who’s
spontaneity and
knowledge
surprised me to
no end! Tennis
is one of those
niche sports
where it’s very
difficult for a
so-called
“outsider” like
Phil to break in
quickly and
garner immediate
respect from
male and female
players,
coaches, and
former greats
who are still
vying for
attention from
the media.
Well, let me
tell you
something, his
tennis hosting
debut was full
of aces and
totally worthy
of a successful
“Grand Slam”
appearance!!

"I already had found
someone to replace
Jeff. I found Phil
Andrews, a Big
husky, handsome,
imposing African
American male
working as a
bartender in Durham.
Phil played football
for the University
of New Hampshire and
I saw Phil as
another one with
star Qualities".
"I brought Phil in
to meet David and
David was duly
impressed. Three
weeks later Phil was
on the air doing
weekend sports
anchoring and sports
reporting during the
week. Phil Stayed
with us a little
over two years.
Today, he is working
in sports in
Philadelphia, one of
the top television
stations in America.
Phil Andrews is
indeed a star".

Phil Andrews is one of those
rare individuals in the
television industry whose
ability to easily communicate
and interact with people,
transcends the air waves.
Andrews is one of Philadelphia's
most talented sportscasters. A
former athlete and fan, covering
sports is as natural to him as
breathing.
Humorous, gregarious, friendly
and upbeat describe Andrews
personality a personality he
found more suited to sports than
hard news.
